The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Frustration Over Sizing Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Response
Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and update the measurements by hand if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Earlier, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, based in Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: last year, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options after backlash from users.
