The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
