Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined over 50 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership was 16.1M. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various languages.
